Creative Sketchbook Journey

PLEASE NOTE: If you found this via the description on the Library 21c Events Calendar, I've made a change to the class format; This is now offered as a hybrid class- By that I mean, the first session (Handmade Sketchbook Journal session) will be offered in person at Library 21c on April 18 from 12:30-2:30. The Art Exploration sessions (originally scheduled for 5/2 and 5/9) will now be available only as online art classes. You are welcome to sign up for just the in person sketchbook journal making session, just the online sketchbook art journal classes, or both (in-person and online) as a package.

(I may be adding additional in-person Handmade Sketchbook Journal sessions on 5/2 and 5/9 if there's enough interest in those dates; If you are interested in attending one of those sessions instead, please let me know via email: daphne@bluequarry.com . If there is enough interest to run a class on either of those dates, I will add those sessions.)

CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

IN-PERSON, HANDMADE SKETCHBOOK ART JOURNAL CLASS- In this 2 hour class, you’ll learn how to make a simple yet beautiful hand-stitched journal. All the materials needed for this activity will be provided. Your completed journal will provide a place for you to express your thoughts and ideas and/or practice expressive art techniques. And the best part is that not only will you take home a lovely sketch journal, you'll also leave with the ability to make your own custom books anytime you like, designed to meet your personal taste and journaling needs (and handmade books make amazing gifts.)

Once we are done making the journals, we get into the sketch art demo portion of the class. I will have several of my completed art journals to provide ideas and inspiration and I will also demonstrate a few techniques to get you started on your journey. In addition, I'll introduce my favorite (although optional) mixed media materials, explain how I use them in my journals and give you an opportunity to try them out. As a bonus, I’ll demonstrate the process I use to create a mixed media art page and, if time allows, guide you to follow along in class.

ONLINE JOURNAL ART EXPLORATION CLASSES: The main idea of the follow-up journal art sessions is to get your creative juices flowing- and to keep them flowing forevermore. Each week following the in-person class, you’ll receive an email with a link to a new lesson. You will have access to the classes for a full 3 months after receiving them so you can view them at any time that’s convenient.

SUPPLIES: A small watercolor set is the only supply you’ll absolutely need for this class; Please bring your watercolor set to the in-person class in the even we do have time to go complete a page together. I recommend you pick up a Winsor & Newton pan watercolor set available on Amazon, because I think it is the perfect compact size and offers the best bang for your buck in terms of quality and price. However you can opt to use a set you already have, or purchase a similar one locally if preferred. In fact, even a $3 children’s set will do.
